The Steak House Facts

Grilled to perfection - For 50 years,
The Steak House grill has been a
fixture in the dining area while preparing over two million steaks.
Established in 1949 at the intersection of Adams Street and Cornhusker Highway, The Steak House was founded by Earl and Roy Vermaas. With a number of business interests in town, Earl ran the restaurant while his brother Roy ran the Skelly station in downtown Lincoln near Pershing Auditorium. The stone building encompassing the dinning room is the original structure of the restaurant.

As the reputation of The Steak House grew, several additions were added. When liquor-by-the-drink was approved by the Nebraska Unicameral in the mid-1960s, a lounge and bar were added. In 1983, the restaurant added a lunch menu. While retaining the homemade items to provide the same quality customers had come to expect, the lunch menu catered to a much more time-conscious clientele.
In 1985, the lounge was enlarged and remodeled to become Stoney Inn Lounge, which features an antique bar, stone wall, mahogany tables and corner fireplaces picture.

During the summer of 1990, a private business/party room, which seats 45 people, was added to meet the needs of customers looking for a private room for business meetings, and seminars, or private party customers hosting prenuptial dinners, anniversaries or birthday parties.

The Steak House owes much of its unique character to the many magnificent animal trophies displayed in the dining room. These trophies are from many areas of the United States, Canada and the Gulf of Mexico.

Today, The Steak House employs 25 people and is proud to have sold over 2,718,350 steaks and 1,000,000 hamburgers over the last 50 years. As it always has been, Lincoln's oldest steak house remains committed to the goal of providing top quality food with prompt, personal and courteous service in a relaxed atmosphere.
